Susan brings 20 years of professional experience to AT&T Public Affairs. A veteran of the enterprise software and hosting industries, Susan is well-versed in marketing communications and market strategy in the IT and Telecom industries. Having Joined AT&T’s Public Affairs team in June 2013, she works closely with stakeholders in the seniors and disability communities as well as the education and energy industries.
Susan formerly served as the Director of the Strategic Messaging at AT&T Business Solutions. Previous to that, she held the position of Marketing Director for AT&T’s GEM and Wholesale marketing team. In these roles Susan worked across corporate resources to establish public relations and marketing programs. Susan lead the teams responsible for development of thought leadership content, content merchandizing strategies, segment advertising and collateral and managed a robust events program at the regional and national levels.
Before joining AT&T, Susan held the position of Vice President of Client Services at SpeakerBox Communications (formerly the SheaHedges Group), a boutique public relations firm in McLean, VA, where she contributed extensive messaging and program development in analyst relations, media relations, product launches and vertical market strategy to client accounts.
In October, 2005, Susan was recognized as a national finalist in the PRNews PR People Awards in the category of PR Team Leader.
Prior to joining SpeakerBox, Susan was the Manager of Strategic Market Research at Digex Inc., an early leader in managed web and application hosting. At Digex, Susan was responsible for developing and implementing vertical market penetration strategies for the Government and Financial Services industries. Susan also launched Digex’s first Customer Advisory Council and Executive Relationship Program to enhance customer relationships and field feedback to evolve marketing messages.
Previously, Susan was Marketing Communication Manager at USinternetworking Inc., one of the first Application Service Providers and AT&T’s Cloud Services division today. She developed and managed the company’s industry analyst relations program, introducing the ASP and managed hosting model and value propositions to the industry analyst community. Susan secured “leadership” positions for USi with Gartner Group, Meta Group, Forrester Research and IDC and assisted in the closing of $10 million in revenues in 2001 through the analyst network.
Before jumping on the dot.com bandwagon, Susan spent three years working on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., first with a lobbying and consulting firm and then as a Press Secretary for Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT).
Susan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts and a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. Susan is a member of Women in Technology (WIT) and an active member on the steering committee for WIT’s Mentor/Protégé Program.
Susan’s passion is understanding brand perception and how customer segments organize and align around specific brands.
Susan is married and has two children, Marie (3) and Mark (1). She and her husband reside in Alexandria, VA.
