With medical image archives increasing by 20 to 40 percent annually, many healthcare organizations are struggling to keep up with the demand for data storage while reducing image management costs. In fact, estimates indicate that more than one billion medical images will be created in 2012 in the U.S. alone.

Considering these challenges, it’s not surprising that more and more hospitals are turning to the cloud for their medical imaging storage and data sharing needs. However, as they consider the cloud, they must also weigh the benefits, risks, and legal and regulatory issues associated with moving medical images to the cloud.
