Cargo View with FlightSafe®: innovation on the move

  • AT&T Cargo View offers businesses complete control and visibility of their supply chains.

  • Companies rely on AT&T to help keep global assets safe from theft, loss, and damage.

Mobile World Congress 2015 kicked off in Barcelona, Spain. Among the week-long activities were GSMA’s 20th annual Global Mobile Awards.

AT&T Cargo View with FlightSafe® was nominated for a Global Mobile Award in the category “Best Mobile Innovation for the ‘Internet of Things.'” The recognition reflects AT&T’s commitment to develop and deliver innovative IoT solutions that help companies transform their business operations and better meet the needs of their customers.

Introduced last year, AT&T Cargo View with FlightSafe is a turnkey solution, including application, software and connectivity, that allows businesses worldwide to monitor and track global assets using near real-time sensor information. The FlightSafe feature, exclusive to AT&T, makes it possible for a device to automatically transition to airplane mode so that it travels in an FAA compliant mode on aircraft. The Cargo View solution employs small, lightweight sensor-based devices that monitor, record and communicate location, temperature, pressure, light and shock.

Whether shipping by air or land, Cargo View is helping companies, across industries, monitor their valuable assets while improving logistics.

Sustainable agriculture company Monsanto delivers products that support farmers all over the world. In the U.S., the company has been using Cargo View to monitor their shipments and keep track of quality and changing conditions while their trucks are in route.

Monsanto CIO Jim Swanson recently talked about this, saying, “Cargo View is part of Monsanto’s broader IoT strategy to enhance value of data for our customers and our business. Cargo View has been effective in reducing seed loss and increasing seed shelf life in the U.S. – based on these results we are expanding into other markets starting with Mexico and Brazil where distances between fields and plants are even greater.”

Another great example is Racine Berkow Associates Inc. (RBA) which is responsible for the safe transport of artwork, antiques and museum exhibitions worth hundreds of millions of dollars around the globe. For the past few months, RBA has successfully integrated Cargo View as part of their overall security and monitoring approach while their precious cargo is in transit.

“Our clients’ biggest concern is the proper handling and care of their objects,” said Racine Berkow, president of RBA. “We believe Cargo View is going to help us grow our business because it enables us to actually track the shipment in real time. Plus, we can monitor temperature, shock and even light sensitivity in one fell swoop.”

Whether shipping Picassos or produce, businesses need to be confident that their shipments will arrive on time and in the right condition. AT&T Cargo View offers businesses exceptional control and visibility of their supply chain, from the moment their freight takes off to the moment it arrives at its final destination.
