Meet the growing data usage demands of your hotel guests

  • Mobile technology is rapidly transforming the hospitality industry.

  • Hotel guests can now use mobile devices to check-in, unlock the door, request room service, and more.

  • Visit AT&T at HITEC 2015 to learn how mobility services can optimize your guest experience.

Do you remember what it was like to stay at a hotel in 2007? I do. I’d pull out my laptop and plug it into a single wired connection. Then I’d spend some time on email, maybe check social media or download a song or two.

Eight years later, my routine is a bit different. Now I use my phone as my room key to bypass check-in, and jump on Wi-Fi as soon as I walk into the door. While I still check my email, view social media sites, and download music, I’ve become a multitasking maniac. I call room service for a late meal and use my mobile app to ask housekeeping for another pillow.

And I’m not just connecting via one device. I’ve got email on my phone, and I’m streaming TV to my tablet while I’m shopping on my PC. Through it all, my devices are uploading my day (videos and photos) to the cloud. In the morning, I check out the digital signage in the lobby for traffic backups, flight delays, and great places to eat lunch.

It’s no wonder that average data usage in hotel rooms has increased tenfold in the past eight years. And we can only expect this growth to continue. Hotels need to be prepared to meet this demand to give guests a positive experience while keeping their employees connected throughout the day.
