Next up for IoT, Billions in projected growth

  • IoT is expected to grow to more than $85 billion by 2017.

  • AT&T is fueling growth with easy-to-use platforms and solutions, available today.

As all eyes turn toward Barcelona for next month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), the Internet of Things (loT) is at the top of everyone’s agenda. And why not? The industry is slated to grow approximately 26 percent year-over-year to be worth $85.96 billion by 2017, according to a new research report from MarketsandMarkets.

As a pioneer in the rapidly advancing IoT space, AT&T is anchored by its steadfast commitment to connected device innovation and growth. Earlier this year at CES, we received third-party validation of that focus when we were recognized by marketing analytics and consulting firm Compass Intelligence with five accolades and three for AT&T’s advancements in IoT’s related M2M field.

The Compass Intelligence Mobility Awards recognize the best in mobile computing, wireless, machine-to-machine application (M2MA) and eco-friendly products and services brought to market over the past year. AT&T was honored with the following awards:

  • M2M Cellular Service Provider of the Year
  • M2M Innovative Product/Solution of the Year
  • M2M Project/Deployment of the Year (for GM)

AT&T also earned the Top Wireless Business Experience Award (Carrier) and Top Wireless Consumer Experience Award (Carrier) within the 2015 Customer and Digital Experience Awards category.

Chris Penrose, AT&T Senior VP of Internet of Things and Mobility, elaborated on these achievements: “AT&T is focused on creating platforms and solutions that make the Internet of Things valuable and easy to use for our customers. We’re truly honored to receive these awards from Compass Intelligence, as it affirms our leadership and commitment to excellence in the wireless and M2M marketplace.”

2015 is shaping up to be another banner year at AT&T, and with so much IoT potential on the horizon, our work is just beginning.

Stay tuned for upcoming news as we demonstrate cutting-edge IoT technology at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, March 2-5, 2015. Innovations include connected city and traffic management, asset monitoring/cargo tracking, developer solutions, and more.
